In partnership with Elks Lodge 2466, CAPTAIN is proud to announce they have received an Elks National Foundation Impact Grant to develop Bike Works in the Clifton Park area. The program provides bicycles to youth in Clifton Park and Halfmoon who are willing to invest some time to learn the basics of bike safety and bike maintenance.
Through this joint venture, new and used bicycles will be distributed to 8-18 year old youths for recreation and transportation. With a focus on education and developing a commitment to biking, Elks members and CAPTAIN community volunteers will teach bike safety, maintenance and repair to area youth throughout the spring and summer.
The vision of Bike Works is to give bicycles to youth who would otherwise not be able to own a one. CAPTAIN and the Elks are proud to embark on a program that encourages healthy activity, environmentally friendly transportation, as well as assisting youth with transportation for summer jobs. CAPTAIN is currently seeking donations of new bikes or pre-owned bikes in excellent condition. As spring rolls around, please consider donating outgrown bikes to the Bike Works program. Call Steve Eggelston at 371-1185 for details on how and when to donate or to learn about receiving a bike through the program.
