Teen Activity Board

As the cornerstone of the CAPTAIN Youth Development Program, the Teen Activity Board (TAB) has had over 1000 high-school members since its inception in 1987. TAB promotes positive development, leadership, self-esteem, character building and citizenship by providing teens with the supervision and opportunity to design and carry out their own community service and fundraising activities. While CAPTAIN Provides adult supervision for all TAB activities, TAB is run totally by a youth Board of Directors. These youth are nominated by TAB members for their leadership skills, personality, and enthusiasm for TAB. Once elected this youth TAB Board, works closely with TAB members, committees, CAPTAIN staff, and the community to identify community service needs, and learning opportunities for TAB members. TAB members visit senior centers and children’s hospitals, conduct community cleanups and food drives, and participate in various fundraisers for CAPTAIN throughout the school year.

Research has shown that youth, who become involved in community service activities early on in their high school careers, are more likely to be accepted to into the college of their choice over youth who have not been involved in volunteering in their communities.
